Jokkmokk market runs from 5 – 7 February 2026. But for those of you who arrive early, there are activities to do all week leading up to the market. Here are some tips for activities in and around Jokkmokk during the entire market week. The program is solid, and in this list of tips we have tried to pick out some examples of events by young Jokkmokk residents or specifically for a young audience.

The entire market week
Feeding reindeer with Elias
Join Elias Kuoljok and feed the reindeer. You will be accompanied by Elias Kuoljok who will tell you about the reindeer herding year and offer you a hot drink with gáhkko.
Price: Adult 350 SEK, children under 15 years 200 SEK.

Tuesday 3 February
Máhto årudahka, the wisdom of knowledge
The project Máhto årudahka – Kunskapens viste sees young Sami people creating duodji objects for a Sami viste with the help of older knowledge bearers. The project leaders within Laponiatjuottjudus tell us.

Wednesday 4 February
DAGAZ dance and film screening
DAGAZ Premiere screening of dance film and performance with butoh dance, storytelling and sound art. With choreographer KAI-EN and stage storyteller Mikael Öberg.

Thursday 5 February
Next generation yoikers – Students from the Sami school perform
The students of the Sami school perform with some yoiks, including one by Sunna Spiik, Sirkas 1912 recorded by Karl Tirén.

The Sami program offers coffee with coffee cheese by the fire
Students from the Sami program in Jokkmokk will be by the fire in the museum park, chatting and offering coffee with coffee cheese. Also look out for the times when they talk about various themes within Sami culture.

Arctic Pulse concert
An energetic evening of music at Folkets Hus! Five young bands from Sweden and Finland offer everything from stripped-down acoustic expressions and modern pop to funk, rock and swing.

Sáminuorra in conversation with the Truth Commission for the Sámi People
Sáminuorra in conversation with the Truth Commission for the Sámi People, as well as invited guests. What is needed for young Sami people to feel safe today? How do we prevent hatred, threats, prejudice and racism? What measures are needed? Come share your thoughts and listen!

Friday, February 6th

Samedisco for children & young people
Jokkmokk's Sami Association invites you to a disco for children (from preschool) and young people.
The Sami Association has some people responsible for the event on site but no responsibility for the children/youth.

Nuoraiid Lávdi – young Sami scene
A place on stage for some of Sápmi's brightest young stars. Listen to yoik, singing and music! Everyone on stage is under 30 years old and some may be on stage for the first time.

Book release with Moa Backe Åstot: It's about you that I write
Come and celebrate the release of Moa Backe Åstot's new book It's About You I Write. After the book talk there is the opportunity to buy signed books and stay for a while. We will offer snacks and drinks.

Lasso throwing
Try throwing a lasso together with Benjamin, IngGirste and Ellenor from the Sami program. By the fire in the museum park.

Yojk concert in the Old Church
Juhán Niila Stålka is a young Lule Sami yoiker and storyteller from Jokkmokk. He tells stories about people, places and animals from the area around the Stora Lule River. He connects stories from the past with contemporary phenomena and with a twinkle in his eye.
