Lecture by the Lule River Water Council

6 February - 12:00 - 13:00

Before the Lule River was tamed by the state-owned company Vattenfall, the river valley had provided enormous salmon catches for centuries. Salmon served as a staple food in the region, helped build Uppsala University and Luleå Cathedral, and was even paid as taxes to the king. To transition to a sustainable, fossil-free society, hydropower must become more environmentally friendly. Electricity production can coexist with a functioning ecosystem. The Lule River Water Council shares stories and images. What will the future hold for the river?
